1910 - Newhall (Auto) Tunnel opens, bypassing Beale's Cut [story]
Newhall Tunnel

After many years in Newhall, the United States Post Office recently moved to an emergency location in the Valencia Marketplace after losing its lease at a Newhall shopping center on Lyons Avenue.

In accordance with post office protocol, the United States Post Office conducted a market study of suitable locations in the area with the intent of siting a permanent Post Office following a 30 day comment period. As of today, there are four sites under review, one of which is the current temporary site in the Valencia Marketplace.

“It is very important that the Post Office retain a Newhall location. Residents have contacted the City, requesting that we work with the post office on this matter. We have many residents who rely on having a local post office,” said Mayor Marsha McLean.

The four sites include:

23120-23128 Lyons Avenue

23644 Lyons Avenue

23736 Lyons Avenue.

25548 The Old Road Unit U1 (current emergency location in Valencia Marketplace)

Residents who would like to let the United States Post Office know that they want to retain a Newhall location may write a letter to:

Dean Cameron

Facilities Implementation

1300 Evans Avenue Suite 200

San Francisco, CA 94188-8200

No emails will be accepted by the United States Post Office. The City has set up a website with information on the issue and where residents can sign up to receive notifications via email regarding new information about the Newhall Post Office at www.santa-clarita.com/usps.

For more information, contact Matt Levesque at the City of Santa Clarita at 661-255-4902 or via email at: mlevesque@santa-clarita.com.

  1. Janice Hoskinson says:

Any of the Lyons Ave. locations would be preferred. What about the vacant Ralph’s store location at Lyons and Orchard Village. I’m not sure the Valencia Marketplace location is even in Newhall. Isn’t that Stevenson Ranch?

  2. I got an earful from my mom about this. Please put location back on Lyons Ave.

    • Get out your pen and paper and send a letter to let them know where you want it to be. I don’t think any of the sites they chose on Lyons have great access to get in/out but the Pioneer center (where Popeye’s is) seems like the best option.

  3. Steve Colf says:

To John’s question, the temporary location is NOT a Newhall Zip Code. They are using the 91322 for POBs but the zip is on the building is different.
If the Pioneer Center is being considered it would be ideal, good access, parking and vacant space.
