The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory and a red flag warning for the valleys of Los Angeles and Ventura counties Wednesday afternoon, both alerts to be in effect from Thursday at 10 a.m. to Friday at 10 p.m.

The NWS predicts wind from the northeast at 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph Thursday morning through Friday night.

The strongest wind is expected Thursday night into Friday morning, when gusts may range from 40-50 mph for valleys and coasts and 60-70 mph in the mountains.

The gusty wind will make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. When driving, use extra caution and be prepared for sudden gusty
crosswind.

The NWS red flag warning also covers much of L.A. and Ventura counties.

Humidity was in single-digits Wednesday and that condition will spread down into the valleys and coasts late Thursday morning and afternoon.

There will be poor overnight recoveries in the hills and windier locations Thursday night. Temperatures will warm into the 80s below the mountains on Friday.

There will be an overall break in the wind Saturday and Saturday night.

However, another Santa Ana condition is expected to develop Sunday through Monday. The NWS predicts wind won’t be as strong as Thursday and Friday, but humidity will again drop into single digits. Valley and coastal temperatures look warmer, with highs reaching into the mid-80s.

A fire weather watch may eventually be needed for the second event, the NWS reported.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring or will soon. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Use extreme caution with potential fire ignition sources.
