hb_wombloozo_band_skp_041313-400x267Los Angeles-based old-school roots rockers and award-winning Santa Clarita Valley Blues Society band Wumbloozo (wum-BLOO-zo) brings back-porch acoustic blues to the next all-new edition of SCVTV’s WAVE-nominated “House Blend” show.

Hosted by veteran Santa Clarita music journalist Stephen K. Peeples, the half-hour music-and-interview program premieres Saturday, May 25, at 10 p.m. Pacific Time on SCVTV, seen on Time-Warner Channel 20 in the Santa Clarita Valley and AT&T U-Verse 99 in Los Angeles and Orange counties. “House Blend” also streams live at www.scvtv.com at the same time.

With songwriter Michael Richard on guitar and vocals backed by Rick Cohen on bass and Greg Krueger on lead guitar, Wumbloozo performs unplugged versions of four songs.

Three are deep-blues Richards originals from Wumbloozo’s second album, 2012’s “Confessin’” — “I Lost My Key to the Highway,” “Under the Bridge” and “This Road Doesn’t Go There.”

The show closer, “You’re My Jones,” also penned by Richard, is a love song with a twist from Wumbloozo’s debut album, “Caught in the Act — Live from the Voodoo Cave,” out in 2010. “Caught in the Act” won the SCV Blues Society’s “Best Self-Produced CD” that year.

Between tunes, Richard and Peeples talk about the artist’s background and early notoriety on the New York club scene, and later in Hollywood.
As lead guitarist with Aberdeen & The Gigolos, Richard shared L.A. stages and musical sensibilities with X, The Blasters, Top Jimmy & The Rhythm Pigs  and other local bands blending American roots and blues with a ferocious alt-punk attack.

Richard also reveals what a “Wumbloozo” is and how his current band came to be. He talks about the sessions for both albums, and outlines the stories behind the four songs the group performs on “House Blend.”

Find out more about Wumbloozo at http://www.wumbloozo.com and via Richard’s Facebook page.

SCVTV’s ‘House Blend’ with Stephen K. Peeples Now in Third Season

Peeples books, researches and writes “House Blend,” and co-produces the show with SCVTV studio director Megan Perez at the SCVTV Media Center in Newhall, Calif. Perez also directs the show, assisted by SCVTV’s Austin Dave, sound engineer Mike Mazzetti and the studio staff. Leon Worden, SCVTV president/CEO, is the series’ executive producer.

Now in its third season, “House Blend” premiered on SCVTV in September 2010 and airs Saturdays at 10 p.m. Pacific Time, with an encore Thursdays at the same time.

Watch “House Blend” in the Santa Clarita Valley on Time Warner Cable Channel 20, throughout Los Angeles and Orange counties on AT&T U-Verse Channel 99, or streaming on the Web everywhere else at www.scvtv.com.

In addition, all “House Blend” programs produced to date — more than 30 original editions with music and interviews and a dozen all-music best-of compilations — are archived and viewable on demand; click here.

A series highlight is the May 2011 “House Blend” program featuring folk-country-bluegrass legends Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen. The show was one of three finalists for a WAVE award from the Western Alliance for Community Media. Read more here.
