Where the Santa Clarita Valley’s homeless population can stay, and city input on breaking up Los Angeles County, were two items that’ll be placed on the City Council’s agenda, following Tuesday night’s council meeting at City Hall.

“We’re going to look at (the Santa Clarita Valley Emergency Winter Shelter) and see whether we’re going to have them extend their stay or move from the existing location,” said Councilman TimBen Boydston.

“As far as the homeless shelter is concerned, I think that it’s very important to take care of the people who find themselves homeless,” Boydston said. “And the location of it needs to be one that works best for those people and for other citizens.”

Extending the contract would be something that would be discussed at the City Council’s next meeting, which is Feb. 5, according to city spokeswoman Gail Ortiz.

There is currently another proposed location in Castaic that the shelter may be moved toward, if the current contract on Drayton Street is not renewed.

Also agendized was a discussion brought forth by former city Mayor Carl Boyer, who suggested city officials look at prompting Los Angeles County to consider a reduction in size.

City officials look at the county discussion during a Century Room study session at a future date that has not yet been set, Ortiz said.
