A sheriff’s deputy sustained a minor injury at a Friday night DUI checkpoint in Valencia that saw one person arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
The deputy was injured when patrol cars snagged a rope he was holding, bringing him to the ground, said Sgt. Richard Cohen of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
Barbara Mutaw, traffic secretary at the SCV Station, said 1,045 vehicles went through the checkpoint, which ran from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Newhall Ranch Road and Grandview Drive.
Deputies administered field sobriety tests to 10 individuals and arrested one.
Another driver had his car impounded and received a citation for driving without a license. Seven other drivers were cited for miscellaneous traffic infractions, Mutaw said.
