fataltcA 9-year-old girl died Monday, after she was hit by a car in Newhall while crossing the street after getting off a city bus, officials said.

The small child was departing the bus with a parent around 7:08 p.m., just before the intersection of the northbound lanes of Orchard Village Road, near Wiley Canyon Road.

  1. ?? so important to keep hand on your kids. I have 9 year old and I’m always reminding him to watch .

  2. Prayers for her family ?

  3. I can’t tell you how many kids I see walking and it breaks my ❤️ I get people work but come on plenty people can help out and take your children home as a Community we have to be there for each other she was 9 years old for gods sake sooooo defastating I cry every time we lose a little soul who had her whole life ahead of her. Prayers for her family and friends, we can’t predict but we can protect. Dear God help us help our children. Amen?

    • Pearl Obispo says:

Did you not read the entire story? The child was with a parent. A family just lost a child. I’m sure the driver is also devastated. It’s heartbreaking enough to have to deal with what just happened, let alone have people who weren’t there already pointing fingers.

    • And we don’t know the child could have run out in the start against the light. That’s why we teach our children when and when not to cross streets. This isn’t always due to people speeding etc. People and kids can and do run out in traffic.

  4. So sad, rip little one!

  5. Dios nuestro Señor de fortaleza y resignación a su familia qpd.:(

  6. Adults must always hold there childs hand and keep them close to them

    • Yeah – you must not have a child of that age. It is pretty much a battle to force a 9 yr old to hold a parent’s hand. And, this was a tragic accident – there is no blame that needs to be placed. It sounds to me like she was eager to get home, bounded ahead of her parent, assumed traffic was stopped since the bus was, and ran out not knowing cars were passing. No matter how careful we are, sometimes accidents happen and they are just accidents.

    • Also – adults have accidentally walked out or even pushed a stroller out, in traffic, before. Don’t blame the parent.

    • Lucy Romero says:

She was eager to get home because it was her birthday! :'( she never got to cut her cake :'( Jessie Reed Larmon I totally agree with you! My youngest son is ADHD he will be turning 9 in January and it’s so hard to get him to hold my hand

  7. Ambrie Eagar says:

It’s so sad that we immediately have to find the blame and it’s always on the parents. ? Prayers for the family.

  8. When I know about things like this happening I feel like holding my daughters’ hands until they are 18?

  9. Isabel Y Saul Garcia

  10. Mike Weaver says:

It’s so sad but I do have to say that children these days just walk right out in front of traffic. I live in Santa Clarita near a school and I have had plenty of children walk right in front of my car. They don’t even bother to stop or look. I called the school twice my self. And it’s like that just about every where in Santa Clarita.

  11. My condolences to the family.

  12. Brian Piper says:

    Summer Michelle Vaughn….Emma’s age!!! I couldn’t imagine! ??

  13. Why is a 9 year old child on a bus alone in the first place? Where is the Mother/Father?

    • RJ Andres says:

It’s difficult to make sense of any of this, and I think that sometimes the anger and negativity that people express here is their own inability to deal with the fragile state of life and loss of it. To the family and friends of all involved, I am deeply sorry for your loss. May you find people who will lift you up and hold you close. You will be in our thoughts!

  14. What streets was this on

  15. Linda Harris says:

Do we know who this little sweetheart was?

  16. Marisol Cruz Jasmine Vanessa Cruz looks this is what happened last night ?

  17. Jaime Caskey Pulido aren’t you constantly posting videos of people flying by school buses when their stop signs are out?

  18. It is not the child’s fault, I think us as Drivers need to be responsible and always watch out for pedestrians. Yes she was a kid and guess what just think like a 9 year old for a second don’t expect her to be as mature as us, she is a kid. My mother was just killed by a speeding driver just 3 months ago. People drive crazy and don’t respect speed limit, stop signs specially school zone. RIP baby girl. My Condolences to the family.

  19. Praying for the family. Sending the family lots of love during this tragic time. ?

  20. Disen que la niña se equivocó de bas eya vivia en las trailitas que Estan en la newhall atras del negocio de Av party RENTA la mamá está muy destrozada

  21. Ruth Oro says:

??? for her and her family.

  22. so cal guy says:

Not a school bus, was with her mom, kid darted out in the street in an effort to get home for her birthday (allegedly), driver was not speeding, had a green light, no drugs or alcohol were a factor according to reports. City buses do not have little stop signs like school buses. No matter how you look at this incident, all fingers point to a complete and tragic accident. No body was at fault…yes drivers do need to slow down in the SCV, however this vehicle could have been going the speed limit or even slower than posted and the element of surprise of child darting out in front of you is something that even the fastest of reactions would not have been able to prevent this. Prayers to all involved…

  23. Dan says:

I see so many people – usually adults – walk across a street as soon as the light turns green, never looking first to see whether oncoming traffic will stop. Always look for traffic before stepping onto a street, no matter that the light is green. Drivers sometimes get distracted and don’t always see stop lights.

  24. Her initials of her first name were Ak, so sad though !

  25. Jesse Perez says:

Her family came to my school for the day of the dead
