Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Crime Prevention Unit
There were four Part 1 Crimes in Zone 2. There was one reported burglary at Castaic Middle School. Suspects gained entry into a classroom and discharged the fire extinguisher inside. Suspects vandalized several closets, supplies and a computer and monitor. A separate Arson report was taken at the school the same day. A small fire was set in the corner of the handball court leaving a black charred mark on the wall approximately 10 feet high. The damage for both was estimated at $500.
A theft from a vehicle was reported off of Castaic Road. The victim had her back pack stolen from inside her vehicle while parked at the local shopping center. The back pack had a Mac Pro lap top and an I-Pad inside. The suspect reached through the open rear window and took the back pack from off the seat.
There was one reported burglary in Val Verde. A resident off of San Martinez had several tools and an air compressor stolen from a storage bin on his property. The theft occurred between January 9th and January 27th.
There was one notable arrest. A 24 year old female was arrested and released for not having a license to solicit merchandise. The suspect was selling magazines and asking for “gift book donations” door to door in Castaic.
Please remember to close your garage doors, and never leave valuables in plain view in your vehicle. Minimize your risk and avoid being the victim of a crime of opportunity.
