Volunteering is essential in any community, as volunteers dedicate their time and energy to support events and vital programs that benefit their neighbors.

In celebration of National Volunteer Week, April 15-21, the city of Santa Clarita thanked the 5,124 volunteers who logged a combined 56,886 hours at city events and programs, resulting in cost savings of more than $1.6 million.

The City Council issued a proclamation to mark Volunteer Week in Santa Clarita at its meeting on Tuesday, April 10.

Volunteers continue to play an important role in Santa Clarita, assisting with the production and operation of special events, programs, special projects and youth sports in the city.

Whether it is by cleaning up portions of the Santa Clara River during the annual River Rally or helping put on the 25th Annual Cowboy Festival at William S. Hart Park April 21-22, volunteers in Santa Clarita have a lasting positive impact on the quality of life in the city.

City volunteers support a number of programs in Santa Clarita, including at community centers, libraries, city offices, open space properties and in emergency communications.
