The College of the Canyons music department will present the annual student-produced Electronica Musique & Multimedia Concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, in the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center Black Box Theater.
Performing under the direction of Dr. Bernardo Feldman, chair of the college’s music department, 14 COC students will have an opportunity to present their work in front of a live audience, while showcasing a creative, and at times, hypnotic style of electronic music.
The concert has been designed to leave listeners with a sense of wonder and a new appreciation for this timeless medium.
“Musical expectations will be expanded and challenged at the same time,” said Feldman. “These students are capable of producing music of exquisite beauty and boundless energy, which is also intellectually challenging.”
The 14 students chosen to perform were selected from the COC courses Music 142: ‘Electronic Music Composition’ and Music 146: ‘Electronic Music for the Stage.’
Each cutting-edge musical piece will be accompanied by a multimedia performance and/or original piece of art, with several musicians choosing to incorporate illustrations, dance and other forms of performance art into their set.
“Because our students are so versatile, their participation might include a singer whose voice is manipulated live so that it is harmonized with itself — or it may create an imitative tapestry of echoes,” said Feldman.
The Electronica Musique & Multimedia Concert is free and open to the public, however seating will be limited. Attendees are asked to arrive approximately 15 minutes prior to the concert’s 7 p.m. start time.
