The Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center’s “Scholar Series” will feature a robotics presentation by NASA-JPL engineer Mike Garrett at the center in Newhall on Tuesday, December 12, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Garrett is an electronics engineer for NASA at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena. He began his work in robotic research and development in 1995 after working in several scientific research areas. He has developed technology for space exploration, military projects, commercial applications, and planetary exploration.
Rovers Garrett has worked on include the Mars exploration rovers Spirit and Opportunity, Curiosity, and Mars 2020.
Garrett has traveled extensively with many robots designed for land, sea, air and space exploration, testing technologies and training scientific teams for a variety of applications. Field trial locations have included deserts, oceans and Arctic locations.
His Senior Center presentation will feature highlights of his work in the field, including a display of actual objects used in space exploration.
The presentation is free and open to the public.
