The nonprofit SCV Mayor’s Committee For Employment of Individuals with Disabilities will host its second annual Educate-Empower-Employ Recognition Luncheon and fundraiser at College of the Canyons on Thursday, February 22 starting at noon.

C-level executives, human resources/employment professionals and other professionals who provide training and job placement for individuals with disabilities are invited to attend the event.

The funds raised will primarily be used in the organization’s efforts to recruit companies looking to increase their efforts to hire individuals with disabilities and help pay for the annual luncheon and breakfast.

“At the luncheon, we focus on recognizing businesses and providing support,” said SCV Mayor’s Committee Chair Ken Wiseman and Event Chair Kathleen Secchi in an email. “At the annual breakfast, we work with the various agencies in the area and focus on what employers need to be successful in their recruiting efforts.

Current $1,000 Committed Sponsors: city of Santa Clarita, Boston Scientific, Poole Shaffery LLP, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, SetPoint Medical and AMS Fulfillment.

Additional sponsorships are available. For a $1,000 sponsorship, you will receive a beautiful framed work of art by the First Place winner of the 2017 Students with Disabilities Art Contest, Stephanie Kamel, a young adult student from the Transitional Learning Center at Hart High School. Sponsors will also receive recognition at the luncheon.

“We’re looking to recognize companies that hire individuals with disabilities, and sponsors to support this event and our ongoing activities,” Wiseman and Secchi said. “To our previous sponsors: We are hoping that you will be able to support us once again.”

The Santa Clarita Valley Mayor’s Committee For Employment of Individuals with Disabilities seeks to:

1. EDUCATE employers on the benefits and social responsibility that come with employing individuals with disabilities;

2. EMPOWER employers to hire individuals with disabilities by providing them with essential information and resources;

3. Increase EMPLOYMENT in the Santa Clarita Valley by working to reduce barriers to hiring individuals with disabilities.

The luncheon will be served at COC’s Institute of Culinary Education Facility, located at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia 91355.
