LANCASTER – The JetHawks treated a sellout crowd at The Hangar to a 9-3 win over the Modesto Nuts on the Fourth of July. Every Lancaster player had at least a hit, and seven drove in a run.
Lancaster (8-6, 41-43) did not look back after a six-run second inning. The JetHawks got an RBI from six consecutive batters in the frame to go up, 7-0. The JetHawks sent 12 men to the plate and their nine hits was the most for the team in an inning this season.
Matt Dennis (6-8) pitched more than well enough for the lead to hold up. The righty worked into the seventh inning, allowing three runs on seven hits. Modesto (4-10, 34-50) did not get a run until the sixth inning.
Modesto’s Nick Wells (1-2) was unable to get out of the fourth. He was charged with eight of Lancaster’s nine runs and gave up 11 hits in defeat.
Every Lancaster starter recorded a hit, led by Alan Trejo’s 4-for-5 night. Trejo had a double and scored twice. Four other JetHawks had two hits in the contest.
The JetHawks are now 7-2 in nine games versus Modesto. Lancaster is 21-16 in games against North Division teams this season. They remain ahead of Lake Elsinore and Inland Empire in the standings.
The five-game series at The Hangar continues Thursday night. Brandon Gold (5-5) takes on Darren McCaughan (4-5, 2.56) in game two. First pitch in Lancaster is at 6:35 pm.
