Craig Schlitter’s run of seven-straight quality starts came to an end as the Lancaster JetHawks fell to the Inland Empire 66ers, 6-1, on Monday night at San Manuel Stadium.

Schlitter (6-1) retired the first 10 batters he faced but struggled against Inland Empire hitters the second time through the order. He allowed two runs on three extra-base hits in the fourth inning and failed to retire any of the six batters he faced in the fifth inning. He came out of the game in the fifth after four runs had scored on four hits and two walks. He went four-plus innings allowing six runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

The start marked the shortest of the season for Schlitter, who had gone at least five innings in each of his starts and at least six innings in his last seven outings. The six runs were also a season-high. He hadn’t allowed more than three in any previous start. His ERA went from 2.02 to 2.89.

Helmis Rodriguez entered out of the bullpen and tossed four scoreless innings. The left-hander allowed only two hits and didn’t walk a batter. He’s throwin five scoreless innings of relief since joining the JetHawks (24-21) earlier this week.

Inland Empire starter Jesus Castillo (1-0) allowed nine hits over six innings but gave up just one run.

The JetHawks scored to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Roberto Ramos doubled to leadoff the inning and scored on a Wes Rogers single.

Garrett Hampson went 3-for-5 out of the leadoff spot and Yonathan Daza recorded a double and a triple. Lancaster went 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position.

The 66ers (23-22) earned a series split with the win and moved within a game of the JetHawks for second place in the South Division. Lancaster is two games out of first place heading into Tuesday’s action.

The JetHawks will host the San Jose Giants for the first game of a three-game series and seven-game homestand on Tuesday night at The Hangar. Trey Killian (5-1) is scheduled to pitch against Mike Connolly (3-4). First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
