MODESTO – Rico Garcia delivered another quality start, allowing two runs over six innings, to help the JetHawks to a 3-2 comeback win over the Modesto Nuts on Monday night at John Thurman Field.
Garcia (7-7) picked up his team-leading seventh win to even his record. He allowed two runs in the first inning but settled in to finish the outing with five scoreless frames. He struck out six without issuing a walk and allowed only six hits.
Lancaster (3-2, 36-39) tied the game with a two-run Steven Linkous hit in the fourth inning against Modesto starter Darren McCaughan.
The decisive run scored in the seventh inning against reliever Anthony McIver (0-2). Tyler Nevin doubled with one out and scored on an Alan Trejo single. It was Trejo’s team-leading 45th RBI.
Rehabbing relievers Mike Dunn and Scott Oberg pitched scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth in relief of Garcia.
Modesto (0-5, 30-45) drew a lead-off walk against closer Reid Humphreys in the bottom of the ninth, but Gareth Morgan hit promptly hit into a double play. Humphreys issued two more walks before enducing a game-ending grounder to second off the bat of Bryson Brigman to notch his league-leading 15th save.
The four-game series continues Tuesday night in Modesto. Ty Culbreth (3-3) is scheduled to start for Lancaster opposite Ljay Newsome (4-4). First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
