For the second consecutive year, UCLA ranked No. 5 in Kiplinger Personal Finance’s list of “Best Values in Public Colleges.”
The report, published today, takes into consideration admission and retention rates, student-faculty ratio and four-year graduation rate, as well as tuition, financial aid and student debt at graduation. Kiplinger noted that 83 percent of UCLA’s student financial aid needs are met, and that the average cost for in-state students, once need-based aid is included, is $8,510.
Kiplinger referenced UCLA’s academics and campus life, noting that students can choose courses from among 109 academic departments and participate in more than 1,000 student clubs and organizations. The report also cited the plethora of internship and job opportunities within Los Angeles.
Six other University of California campuses were included among the top 100: UC Berkeley (4), UC Santa Barbara (16), UC Irvine (30), UC San Diego (31), UC Davis (37) and UC Santa Cruz (63).
UCLA placed fifth in 2013, sixth in 2012 and ninth in 2011 on the Kiplinger’s list.
Regardless of methodology, UCLA consistently performs well in a wide variety of rankings, highlighting UCLA as one of the best universities in the world.
In October, UCLA was listed as the No. 2 public university and No. 8 overall in the inaugural U.S. News and World Report Best Global Universities ranking. Also recently, UCLA ranked No. 12 in the 2014-15 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, No. 1 in the Washington Monthly ranking of “affordable elites,” and the No. 2 public university in Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s Academic Ranking of World Universities.
