A report released today by HealthGrades, the nation’s leading independent source of physician information and hospital quality ratings, recognized all five Providence Health & Services, Southern California, medical centers for excellent clinical outcomes.

Choosing a hospital can be a life or death decision. HealthGrades’ report found that patients treated at 5-star rated hospitals experienced a 73 percent lower risk of mortality and a 63 percent lower risk of complications compared to 1-star rated hospitals. A quality comparison of doctors and hospitals in Los Angeles area can be found online at HealthGrades.com.

“Providence is focused on excellence and that focus and the unrelenting commitment to improving care has translated into measurable superior clinical quality and patient outcomes,” said Laurence Eason, regional chief medical officer for Providence Southern California. “With more and more information available to consumers, they can easily identify the highly rated hospitals in their areas, and we are pleased to be among those at the top of the list . Providence is fortunate to have passionate and well trained physicians, nurses and staff members to care for people when they are at their most vulnerable.”

Providence, a Catholic not-for-profit organization, operates Providence Holy Cross, Providence Saint Joseph and Providence Tarzana medical centers in the San Fernando Valley and Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Centers in Torrance and San Pedro. Together the medical centers garnered 53 HealthGrades awards for quality.

“Patients today have a wide array options when it comes to choosing a healthcare provider,” said Kerry Hicks, HealthGrades chief executive officer. “At HealthGrades, we are proud to have led the way for empowering patient choice based on objective clinical outcomes and access to actionable quality measures. We commend the Providence Health & Services, Southern California, hospitals for their superior quality and support of consumerism and transparency in the Los Angeles area.”
