Prior to the start of this season, The Master’s University women’s basketball coach Dan Waldeck said Hannah Forrar had “one of the most tenacious scoring mentalities the club has had in recent years.”

Three games may be a small sample size, but the sophomore guard is affirming her coach’s pre-season statement so far.

Forrar tallied a game-high 19 points Tuesday evening to pace The Master’s University past Bethesda University, 88-61.

The Mustangs’ second straight home victory on Bross Court bumped their record to 2-1.

“I thought our effort was good again tonight,” Waldeck said. “I’m continuing to see them work toward the things we want to improve, and that is super exciting.”

That effort showed early as the Mustangs scored the game’s first eight points en route to a season-best quarter total of 29 points.

Forrar’s seven points sparked TMU while Hannah Ostrom’s 3-pointer with 26 seconds remaining produced the club’s largest lead of the opening 10 minutes, 29-13.

The Flames presented more of a challenge in the second stanza, pulling within 33-21 at the 8:31 mark. However, baskets from freshman Anika Neuman and Forrar built the margin back to 16 points, and the Mustangs cruised into halftime with a 49-31 advantage.

The Mustangs shot a sparkling 59% from the field, highlighted by a 5-of-8 showing from behind the arc, over the opening 20 minutes.

On a night when the offense was in high gear, it was the club’s play at the other end that stood out in a third quarter where the Mustangs held the Flames to just 10 points while forging a 71-41 lead.

Fittingly, Forrar was responsible for the club’s largest lead of the evening when her jumper with 1:38 remaining in the third quarter made it a 71-39 game.

Although the Mustangs took their foot off the gas somewhat in the fourth quarter, they were able to showcase the talents of nearly every player on the squad.

“Every player on our roster is making contributions through their commitment in practice and games,” Waldeck said.

The Mustangs wound up shooting a season-high 55% from the field.

Forrar, who is shooting a sizzling 64% from the field so far, went 8-10 on the evening to pace four Mustangs in double figures.

Freshman Tristen Coltom and sophomore Hannah Ostrom combined for 30 points off the bench. Coltom’s career-high 17 points featured a 4-of-5 performance from long range while Ostrom added 13 more and tore down a game-high nine rebounds.

Neuman continued to play well in the post, going 7-for-9 from the field on the way to 14 points. She pulled down eight boards.

Forrar and her teammates would enjoy nothing more than turning around and playing Wednesday. They’ll have to wait, though, until Friday when they host Montana Tech on the first day of the Jersey Mike’s Fall Classic.

Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Bross Court.
