The Master’s University women’s volleyball team continued its best start to a season since 2012 on Saturday night in El Cajon, sweeping San Diego Christian by scores of 25-16, 25-23 and 26-24.
In five Golden State Athletic Conference matches now, the No. 14-ranked Mustangs have dropped a total of two sets. They improved to 16-3 on the year and won’t play again until they host Menlo College and William Jessup in a pair of home contests next Friday (6 p.m.) and Saturday (3 p.m.).
Master’s is alone in first place at 5-0 in-conference.
In this one, Jane Cisar produced a team-high eight kills, and Sarah Park totaled 17 assists.
Park served 12 straight points to dig the Mustangs out of an 11-4 hole in set three.
She blasted two aces during the run.
McKenna Hafner totaled four aces on a night the Mustangs made their money at the service line, taking San Diego hitters out of rhythm in the process.
“Serving was our best quality tonight,” said coach Allan Vince, whose team recorded nine aces in all. “It single-handedly won the match.”
Kayla Sims was “excellent,” Vince said. She finished with eight assists and five kills. Autumn Stevens added six total blocks as the Mustangs won their sixth straight match. The team hasn’t lost since Sept. 1 when it pushed then-No. 1 Lindsey Wilson to five sets.
Here’s the box score.
These conference road wins — of which Master’s now has four — haven’t come easy.
“It’s always a challenge to battle on the road,” Vince said. “I’ve been pleased to see how this team has responded to adversity with mental strength and inspiration for the next ball. The depth of our roster has shown its strength this week.”
