Make-A-Blanket Day returns Saturday, Oct. 22 to an in-person event for SCV Project Linus, a service project of the Nonprofits Ventures class at Academy of the Canyons Middle College High School. The Nonprofit Ventures class is where students learn the inner workings of how to run a nonprofit business in their community.
Project Linus, a non-profit organization, provides new handmade blankets to children in need, who are ill or suffering a trauma. The blankets are lovingly made by adults and children from all walks of life and many different sources. Nearly nine million blankets have been delivered since the organization was founded in 1995.
The SCV Project Linus chapter has delivered more than 10,000 blankets in it’s nearly decade of existence.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at College of the Canyon’s East Gym, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia, CA 91355.
There will be food trucks at the event if you would like to purchase food.
Please bring fleece to the event. A child sized blanket consists of a single piece of Polar, Blizzard, or Antipill fleece no smaller than 1 and 1/2 yards (54 inches in length). Fleece can be purchased at Joann Fabrics, 26583 Carl Boyer Drive, Santa Clarita, CA 91350.
No experience needed.
If you are unable to participate in the Make-A-Blanket Day Event you can drop off handmade blankets on the day of the event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
