SCVi Charter School is hosting a “Meet the Candidates” forum on Thursday evening to provide the community an opportunity to get to know the four candidates seeking election to two districts’ seats on the board of trustees for the William S. Hart Union High School District.
“This is a great opportunity for everyone to get to know these four candidates who hope to serve our community on the Hart District board,” said Amber Raskin, co-founder of SCVi and iLEAD Schools. “All four candidates stand ready to volunteer their time in the spirit of community service, and this forum at SCVi will help residents to learn more about the candidates before voting.”
Scheduled to attend are the two candidates seeking election to District 1, incumbent Gloria Mercado and challenger Linda Storli, as well as the candidates for District 4, incumbent Steven Sturgeon and challenger Andrew Taban.
The 7 p.m. forum will be held in the theater at SCVi, the founding campus of iLEAD Schools, at 28060 Hasley Canyon Road, Castaic, in the Hasley Canyon Commerce Center. A panel consisting of students, a parent and a teacher will ask the questions, and the public is welcome to attend.
Matt Watson, the upper school director at SCVi, said the forum provides a learning opportunity for students of SCVi and other schools in the Hart District, too.
“This is a great chance to see representative democracy in action,” Watson said. “Electing the leaders of our community’s high school district is an important responsibility, and learners who attend and participate in this forum can develop their readiness for their future role as voters.”
