The Master’s University women’s volleyball team beat Life Pacific University, 3-0, on Saturday at TMU behind Jane Cisar‘s highly efficient evening and a host of aces.

The Mustangs tallied 14 aces in all and Cisar compiled a match-high 12 kills and one error on 15 tries to help TMU rebound from Friday’s loss to Hope International. Set scores were 25-19, 25-18 and 25-19.

Mackenzie Delo recorded six aces, including three in a row at one point, for the Mustangs, who improved to 8-7 overall and 3-2 in Golden State Athletic Conference play. The Warriors dropped to 8-8 and 2-4.

“We just really focused on moving forward,” said Cisar, “and taking yesterday as a learning experience and thinking about the end goal and taking this as a completely new game.”

Cisar reached double-digit kills for the fourth time this season and the second time in as many matches. She recorded 14 kills Friday against Hope, which beat TMU 3-1.

That, coupled with a loss to Westmont last week, spelled the Mustangs’ first two-match losing streak in GSAC play since 2017, something that spoke to the team’s success last year when it reeled off a 16-2 record in GSAC play and won the program’s first-ever GSAC regular season and tournament titles.

Those goals remain on the table despite a more difficult beginning to the season.

“Obviously we’re not doing as well as we did last year starting off,” Cisar said. “But I think we have a good chance of winning going forward and continuing to work hard and hopefully winning GSAC. I don’t think it’s over for us yet. We have a lot of work to do, but we have a lot of fire. We really want this.”

Cisar also praised Katie Emmerling, who totaled 24 assists Saturday.

“She did a great job of moving around the hitters and choosing which were the best to set at certain times,” Cisar said. “She really moved around and made it easy when she set me to go ahead and kill the ball.”

McKenna Hafner had 12 digs and Regan Tate had nine kills for the Mustangs, who will travel to face San Diego Christian and Vanguard University next weekend. Their next home match is Oct. 4 vs. William Jessup University.
