Winners of six straight, the University of Antelope Valley Pioneers (6-1) rolled to another victory Wednesday evening, sending the short-handed Warriors of Life Pacific College (1-6) home with a loss, 117-70, in intercollegiate women’s basketball action at the Pioneer Event Center (PEC) in Lancaster.
UAV outscored LPC by double digits in every period except the fourth en route to earning their sixth-consecutive victory of the season. It was all-Pioneers from the beginning of the contest, with seven different UAV players reaching double-digit points in the 117-70 blowout win.
Junior guard Asia Young (Kansas City, MO) led all Pioneers with 23 points and shot 10-of-11 from the field, senior guard Ilianna Blanc (Los Angeles, CA) added 15 points, two rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal, and sophomore forward Alexia Budd (Los Angeles, CA) poured in 14 points, a team-high eight rebounds, three assists, one block, and a steal.
Junior forward Tylen Price (Lancaster, CA), senior guard Daizah Pounds (Richmond, CA) and senior guard T’airah Pryor (Long Beach, CA) each added 12 points, and senior guard Alyssa Gonzales (Bakersfield, CA) finished with 11 points, a game-high six assists, two steals and one rebound.
UAV hit 45-of-86 field goals (.523), 17-of-42 three-pointers (.478), 10-of-18 free throws (.556), and outrebounded the Warriors, 40-33. UAV committed 14 turnovers and stole the ball 19 times. LPC made 23-of-52 shots (.442), 8-of-16 three-pointers (.500) and 16-of-24 free throws (.667) and committed 38 turnovers and stole the ball from UAV six times.
