FULLERTON – Facing their third NCAA opponent of the season, the University of Antelope Valley Pioneers (8-3) suffered a defeat at the hands of CSU-Fullerton (7-4) Friday evening, losing to the Titans, 77-65, in intercollegiate women’s basketball action inside Titan Gymnasium in Fullerton.
UAV kept things close for the majority of the game, including a 16-14 advantage over CSU-Fullerton after one quarter and a 31-31 tie at halftime, but the Titans took control in the final period, outscoring the Pioneers 29-15 en route to earning the victory, 77-65.
Junior forward Tylen Price (Lancaster, CA) led all Pioneers with 20 points while also grabbing four rebounds to go along with two assists and one steal.
Senior guard Samantha Earl (Clovis, CA) added 16 points, a team-high four assists and one rebound, sophomore forward Alexia Budd (Los Angeles, CA) scored 14 points, pulled down a team-high five boards and stole the ball once, and senior guard LaChae McColor (Honolulu, HI) contributed eight points and one rebound.
UAV hit 26-of-63 field goals (.413), 8-of-25 three-pointers (.320), 5-of-6 free throws (.833), and were outrebounded by the Titans, 36-28. UAV committed 14 turnovers and stole the ball six times. CSU-Fullerton made 26-of-53 shots (.491), 4-of-11 three-pointers (.364) and 21-of-24 free throws (.875) and committed 14 turnovers and stole the ball from UAV five times.
NEXT GAME: Coached by Deon Price, the Pioneers returned home to host Northern New Mexico College for an NAIA non-conference game on Saturday, Dec. 15 inside the Pioneer Event Center in Lancaster.
