We are quickly approaching the culmination of the year-long celebration of our city’s 30th anniversary. It is truly a time to celebrate all the hard work, dedication, perseverance and passion that took our City from being a tiny portion of Los Angeles County to the thriving third largest city in the county. What better way to celebrate three decades of cityhood than to take it back to the very beginning and “Party Like It’s 1987,” which is the theme for this year’s State of the City luncheon.
I invite all of you to join us for a trip back in time to the year our City was incorporated. This year’s State of the City luncheon will take place on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Valencia. We will take a trip through the years, remembering the people and events that helped shape the City of Santa Clarita.
We’ll take a closer look at how our Santa Clarita 2020 plan is preparing us for the next few years and beyond, with quality infrastructure, state-of-the-art facilities, exciting recreation venues and more. You’ll find out the latest information on much-anticipated projects such as the new sheriff’s station, the new Canyon Country Community Center and the Saugus Library Center. Redevelopment is underway in Old Town Newhall as the area continues to build upon its reputation as the premier arts and entertainment district in the City. Construction is happening now on several major projects including the City-owned parking structure, and very soon on the Laemmle Theatres and Newhall Crossings.
If you’ve never been to one of the State of the City luncheons, get ready for a good time. Not only will you get to be part of the City’s special 30th anniversary celebration, you will enjoy a delicious lunch, hear from each of the five City councilmembers, watch brief video presentations on the latest City news (with an ‘80s twist), plus you will receive a special 30th anniversary commemorative gift.
Whether you’re a returning guest or considering attending for the first time, I look forward to seeing you at this year’s State of the City luncheon as we celebrate all we’ve accomplished in the last 30 years and share our plans for the future of Santa Clarita.
The event is open to the public and tickets are $40 per person and $400 per table of 10. For additional information about the luncheon, or to RSVP, please visit Santa-Clarita.com or call the City at (661) 255-4939.
Best regards,
Ken Striplin
