College of the Canyons dominated its match vs. Bakersfield College from start to finish on Friday night, resulting in a 5-1 victory over the Renegades for the Cougars’ first conference win of the season.
Crystal Sanchez netted two goals for the Cougars (10-2, 1-0), as COC registered an impressive 36 shots in the match, compared to just six for Bakersfield (4-5-2, 0-1-1).
Angel Quintero, Jennifer Roney, and Alondra Solis each scored for Canyons, and goalkeeper Jordan Burrow collected four saves in the winning effort.
The Cougars dominated time of possession in the first half as they were on the offensive from the beginning.
COC opened the scoring in the 6th minute as Quintero found herself open on a run out left the left side. She delivered a perfect pass to Sanchez who snuck the ball just inside the left post.
Less than a minute later, Quintero found space again down the left side but her shot was saved by the Bakersfield goalkeeper.
In the 16th minute, Solis put on a terrific move just outside of the box and unleashed a powerful shot that was saved by the lunging goalkeeper. She had another opportunity just a minute later but her shot was saved yet again.
In the 23rd minute, substitute Kayla Brennan left a perfect ball for Kiara Gunn whose shot sailed just over the bar and out of play.
With under 18 minutes to go, Gunn found space down the left side and delivered a shot that was blocked by the keeper. But the rebound found its way to the feet of Quintero who easily finished off the second goal for the Cougars.
In the 38th minute, Quintero delivered a pass into the box from the right sideline that found the head of Brennan, but the shot went just wide of the post.
The first scoring chance of the second half came in the 51st minute as Hailey Phipps took a free kick from 28 yards out and blasted it off the post.
Quintero continued to be on the offensive in the second half as she had a flying header in the 57th minute that barely went over the crossbar.
The Cougars scored their third goal of the contest when Roney found the back of the net in the 63rd minute.

The lone goal for Bakersfield came in the 69th minute when Lea Mason dropped a perfect pass to Sabrina Murillo who blasted a shot just past the outstretched hand of Burrow.
With roughly 20 minutes left in the contest, the Cougars were awarded a penalty kick and Solis finished off the scoring by tucking her shot just inside the near post.
