The College of the Canyons women’s soccer team has earned a No. 7 seed in the California Community College Athletic Association Women’s Soccer Southern Regional Playoffs and will host No. 10 Antelope Valley College at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, on the upper field next to Cougar Stadium.
The Cougars (13-3-3, 9-1-2) finished in first place in the Western State Conference, South, earning head coach Justin Lundin his firstconference title in just his third year at the helm of the program.
Antelope Valley (16-2-2, 9-2-1) came in first place in the Foothill Conference and are coached by Jerry Stupar, who formerly was an assistant men’s and women’s soccer coach at College of the Canyons.
This is the sixth time the women’s soccer program has made the post season since the program was established in 1998. Former headcoach Phil Marcellin led his team to the playoffs five times. This is the first time that Lundin will participate in the playoffs.
The Cougars are 1-1 against Antelope Valley, with both teams winning at home. The last time the two teams play in 2009, Antelope Valley took the game 5-0.
The winner of Saturday’s match up will take on the victor of the No. 2 Santa Barbara/No. 15 San Bernardino seed pairing and will play onTuesday, Nov. 22.
Cosumnes River College will play host to this year’s men’s and women’s soccer state championship, being held Dec. 2-4.
Tickets for the event can only be bought at the gate. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students with identification, staff, children under 12 and seniors over 60.
