The homeless crisis and transportation improvements are among the issues on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors starting at 9:30 a.m.
Other highlights include:
- Los Angeles Universal Preschool (LAUP) Educator of the Year awardees honored
- Children’s Alliance recognized for their 25th Anniversary and Janice Spire in recognition of her service to the community and as President of the Children’s Alliance.
- Lucas Rivera honored for his contributions to the community as Vice President of Grand Park.
- Participants of the Los Angeles County Youth Jobs Program recognized for their contributions to the County both as employees and employers.
- Department of Public Social Services and other agencies honored for “Refugee Awareness Month.”
- Manuel Sanchez recognized for his outstanding service to the numerous members of the Lions Club International and residents of Norwalk.
- Caylin L. Moore honored for being named a 2017 Rhodes Scholar.
- Supervisor Solis and Kuehl instruct the Chief Executive Officer to negotiate with the City of Los Angeles on a three-year license agreement to allow the Los Angeles City Police Department (LAPD) to operate on the LAC+USC Medical Campus in assisting victims and families of child and elder abuse. (Item 2)
- Supervisor Solis and Kuehl instruct the Chief Executive Officer to negotiate with the East Los Angeles Women’s Center on a three-year license agreement to provide temporary shelter to survivors of domestic, sexual and interpersonal violence and their families. (Item 3)
- Supervisor Solis proclaims June 12, 2017 as “Philippine Independence Day.” (Item 4)
- Supervisor Kuehl and Ridley-Thomas recommend the revocation of appointed counsel registration fees for services received from the Public Defender, the Alternate Public Defender, or court-appointed counsel. (Item 7)
- Recommendation for the Chief Executive Officer to approve the 2015 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program budget in the amount of $792,632 to continue crime prevention and control programs in the County. (Item 13)
- Authorization sought for the director of Public Social Services to execute a Coordinated Entry System for Families (CES) services contract with Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, with a maximum contract amount of $36,900,000 funded by CalWORKs. (Item 16)
- Authorization sought for the Director of Public Social Services to execute a Crisis Housing and Supportive Services for Homeless General Relief Applicant/Participant (GR CHSS) contract with the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) for an estimated amount of $2,409,000 for Fiscal Year 2017-18. (Item 17)
- Recommendation for the Director of the Health Agency to accept an anticipated grant award up to $20,000,000 from the California Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) for implementation of the Los Angeles County Proposition 47 Program. (Item 19)
- Recommendation for the Director of Mental Health to execute Service Agreements with Enhanced Emergency Shelter Program contractors to purchase beds on an as-needed basis for temporary emergency shelter. (Item 27)
- Authorization sought for the Director of Public Health to execute sole source contracts with various Vector Control districts to respond to the Zika virus, 100% offset by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Notice of Award. (Item 31)
- Recommendation to approve the continuation of public transit services for the residents in the unincorporated area of Santa Clarita Valley for Fiscal Year 2017-18 with an estimated total County share of $2,400,000. (Item 38)
- Recommendation to approve the continuation of paratransit services for eligible patrons in the unincorporated County for Fiscal Year 2017-18 at an estimated total of $3,595,000. (Item 39)
- Recommendation to approve the continuation of public transit services for the residents in the unincorporated area of Antelope Valley (5) for Fiscal Year (FY) 2017-18 an estimated County total of $900,000. (Item 43)
- Authorization sought for the acquisition of one lifeguard fire rescue boat for the Lifeguard Division, in an amount not to exceed $651,000. (Item 48)
- In closed session, Board to consider: Case alleging discrimination against individuals with mental and/or developmental disabilities in the General Relief Program.
