SAN DIMAS – College of the Canyons remained undefeated on the season while winning its 15th straight Western State Conference (WSC) tourney with a four-player score of 316 at San Dimas Canyon Golf Course on Monday.
Canyons improved to a perfect 30-0 in the team standings with its 14-stroke advantage over second place Santa Barbara City College (330). Citrus College (418) finished third followed by Antelope Valley College (423) and Bakersfield College (457). Moorpark also competed but did not factor into team scoring.
The Cougars have won 15 straight WSC events dating back to the start of the 2018 season, including six straight in the current campaign.
COC sophomore Jessie Lin was the top finisher for the Cougars with a two-over score of 74. That mark was a shot better than third-place finisher Haruka Koda’s round of 75. Koda had medaled in the previous five WSC events. Both Lin and Koda finished behind event medalist Pratima Sherpa of SBCC who carded an even par 72.
Koda continues to lead the conference’s individual season standings, followed by Lin in second, Pratima in third, Heuer in fourth and Poswal sixth overall.
Cougars sophomore Paige Heuer was fourth overall in the individual standings with a score of 81. Meanwhile, sophomore Shabana Poswal tied with two other golfers for seventh overall. Fredeliza Lieberman (96) and Delaney Young (107) both had their scores scratched.
Canyons continues a busy week on the links at the Southern California Preview event being played at Via Verde Country Club in San Dimas. Action is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
COC will then host its home conference tourney at Sand Canyon Country Club, beginning at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21.
The regular season concludes at the WSC Finals Oct. 27-28 at Spanish Hills Country Club in Camarillo.

Jesse Munoz: You don’t even mention coach Gary Peterson, much less give him any credit for these 15 straight WSC titles.
