The Master’s University women’s basketball team beat San Diego Christian 64-38 Wednesday night on Bross Court.
With the win, No. 21 TMU’s 2016-17 record improved to 15-6 and 5-5 in Golden State Athletic Conference play.
Commenting on Wednesday’s victory, Lady Mustang head coach Dan Waldeck said, “I thought we competed really hard for 40 minutes. We had great production from our bench, and I thought our upperclassmen set a good precedent for everyone to follow. I love that our defense has been carrying us, and I think we’re getting better offensively every day.”
After leading the Hawks for the majority of the first half, TMU entered intermission with a 32-18 advantage. TMU’s Bianca Cubello led all scorers at halftime with eight points, seven rebounds, and three blocks. Also at the break, the Lady Mustangs went 12-29 (41%) from the field, 2-7 (28%) from behind the arc, and a perfect 6-6 on free throws.
The Lady Mustangs’ lead only increased after halftime as TMU outscored the Hawks 14-8 in the third quarter and closed out the frame with a 46-26 advantage. TMU posted an evening-high 29 points in the fourth quarter when Hannah Forrar drove in a layup with 4 minutes and 46 seconds left to play, putting TMU up 60-31. The Lady Mustangs finished the evening with a 64-38 victory when Sabrina Thompson scored in the final seconds of the game.
Cubello finished the evening by grabbing 11 boards and scoring 10 points, which marked her eighth double-double of the season. Notably, Jamilee Iddings also scored 10 points.
As a team, TMU finished the night by making 44% (24-54) of its field goals, 26% (4-15) of its three-pointers, and 85% (12-14) of its free throws.
On Saturday, the Lady Mustangs will welcome No. 19 Biola to the Placerita Canyon for a 5:30 p.m. tilt.
