On Wednesday, March 30, 265 GATE students from all nine Sulphur Springs school sites will participate in the district’s annual GATE night.
Students have been working throughout this school year on a GATE project that displays their content knowledge, critical thinking skills, technology skills as well as creativity skills.
Students worked on projects that match grade level themes. The projects vary in presentation but all relate back to one of the main themes. Students in 3rd grade focused on the universal theme of “relationships.”
Projects explored the different aspects of relationships including rules, power, purpose, and the changing of relationships over time, as well as the ability to find relationships in everything.
Fourth grade students focused on the universal theme of “change.” Projects explored the different aspects of change including change generates additional change, change can be either positive or negative, change is inevitable, change is necessary for growth, change can be evolutionary or revolutionary, and change can be natural or manmade.
Students in fifth grade focused on the universal theme of “systems.” Projects explored the different aspects of systems including systems having parts that work together, systems follow rules, systems may be influenced by other systems, how systems interact, and systems are made up of other systems.
Sixth grade students focused on the universal theme of “systems.” Projects explored the different aspects of power including, power is the ability to influence, power may be used or abused, power may take many forms, power is always present in some form, and power may be overt or covert.
The celebrations will take place at two school sites: Fair Oaks Community School (26933 N. Silverbell Lane) featuring Canyon Springs, Fair Oaks, Leona Cox, and Valley View in MPR, computer lab, library, and science lab and Sulphur Springs Community School (16628 Lost Canyon) featuring Golden Oak, Mint Canyon, Mitchell, Pinetree, and Sulphur Springs in the schools’ multipurpose room and computer lab at 7pm.
