The work of more than 150 young authors will be celebrated by the Sulphur Springs School District at the annual Young Authors Conference on Tuesday, May 17, 2016.
Their works were selected from every site in the district to be published, bound and placed in their school’s library. Authors range in age from 8 to 12.
The best writing from each school site’s entries was selected by a group of teachers and administrators for this honor. One copy of the published and bound student-authored book was paid for by the PTAs at the schools and will be given to the young author.
Another was paid for by the district and will be placed in the school library for circulation among the school’s students. The evening will begin in the multipurpose room with a special presentation focusing on our young authors.
Following the presentation, students will go to a selected classroom with a group of other young authors to read a part of your book.
Each author will be called by name to sit in a special author’s chair to do the reading.Family and friends will know which room the student will be in so they can hear he/she read their story.
After the student reads, they will complete the final copy of their bookplate.
Each author will be in a room with about 10 other “Young Authors.” The students will have the opportunity to listen to other authors read a selection from their book. The evening will conclude with an informal cookie and punch reception back in the multipurpose room.
These are special events to recognize talented young authors within our district.
It is important for students to understand the complete writing process. There is no better way than to see their efforts reflected in a bound book and for friends to be able to check it out at the school library.
