Sam Eisenhuth fired a 3-over 147 to lead The Master’s University to a fifth-place finish on the first day of the A.I.I./Red River/GSAC golf championships in Litchfield Park, Arizona.
Eisenhuth, a senior from Embarrass, Minnesota, shot a 3-over 75 on the opening 18 holes on the Wigwam Golf Course and closed strong with a second-round 72 to trail leader Nick Norton of Arizona Christian by four shots.
Eisenhuth paced the Mustangs to an overall 37-over par 613, leaving the club nine shots behind both Our Lady of the Lake (TX) and the University of Victoria (BC).
“We are excited for the challenge in front of us,” said TMU coach Jason Semelsberger.
Freshman Joshua Kehl fired an opening-round 72 but finished with an 81 in the second round and a 153 overall.
Sophomore Karsten Briley was a shot back at 154 and junior Robert Penalber finished with a 159.
The Mustangs conclude the 54-hole national qualifier Tuesday in search of a top two finish that would earn an automatic berth in the NAIA National Championships, May 15-18 in Silvis, Illinois.
