The Santa Clarita Public Library, in partnership with the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry, will offer “Food for Fines” during September, allowing customers to donate food items and get up to $20 credit toward overdue library fines or replacement card fees.
Donations are being gathered for the SCV Food Pantry, a local non-profit that works to collect and distribute donated foods to those in need in the community.
Each Santa Clarita Public Library branch will have a donation collection barrel set up near the service desk. Customers are encouraged to donate as many food items as they want. Each item will grant the customer up to $5 to use toward a library fine or replacement card fee. The maximum amount that can be waived per account is $20.
According to the Food Pantry, most-needed donation items are canned fruit, tuna, rice, peanut butter and boxed macaroni and cheese. However, all donation items will be accepted.
For a full list of needed items, please visit Food Pantry website at SCVFoodPantry.org/HowtoHelp.
