The Trinity Classical Academy football team started its season on a winning note. The same can’t be said of the Santa Clarita Christian and West Ranch football teams.
Trinity beat Orcutt Academy, 52-14, at College of the Canyons in the season opener for both teams. Dakota Prochnow rushed for 70 yards on seven carries and scored two touchdowns for Trinity. Patch Kulp gained 100 yards on eight carries and scored a touchdown.
The Santa Clarita Christian football team lost its season opener, 28-6, to Capistrano Valley Christian. Turnovers plagued Santa Clarita Christian in this one. Capistrano Valley scored two touchdowns off turnovers in the first half.
Derek Lewis scored the only touchdown for Santa Clarita Christian. He rushed for 43 yards on 12 carries.
The West Ranch football team was shut out on the road, 31-0, against Moorpark.
In college volleyball, The Master’s College women swept Concordia in three sets in their final match at the Biola Summer Slam. The Lady Mustangs went undefeated at the Summer Slam and are 5-0 to start the season.
Sam Dougherty had 14 kills and teammate Rachel Taylor added 13 for The Master’s College against Concordia.
The Lady Mustangs beat Midland in four games in their first match of the day at the Summer Slam.
In college soccer, The Master’s College women ended the Southern Oregon University Classic with a 2-2 draw against host Southern Oregon.
Shea Richards scored both goals for The Master’s College. The Lady Mustangs were 1-1-1 in the Southern Oregon University Classic.
The Master’s College men lost to Trinity Western, 2-0, and fell to 0-2 to start the season.
The Dodgers completed a blockbuster deal over the weekend with the Boston Red Sox. First baseman Adrian Gonzalez, pitcher Josh Beckett, outfielder Carl Crawford and infielder Nick Punto were traded to the Dodgers for James Loney, Ivan DeJesus, Allen Webster and two prospects.
The Dodgers also placed pitcher Chad Billingsley on the 15-day disabled list with a sore elbow.
On the field, the Dodgers lost to the Miami Marlins, 6-2. The new faces on the Dodgers weren’t much help. The Marlins hit four home runs and left LA on a winning note.
The Dodgers are off to Colorado for a quick road trip against the Rockies. Beckett will make his Dodgers debut on the mound. The Rockies counter with Jeff Francis.
