Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center Volunteer & Advocacy Coordinator Robin Clough has been selected as a California Senior Legislature Assembly Member.

Clough and Santa Clarita geriatric physician Dr. Gene Dorio were sworn in at the Capitol Building in Sacramento on Thursday, October 31, during the California Senior Legislature’s Annual Session.

The California Senior Legislature is a volunteer body whose primary mission is to gather ideas for legislation at the state and federal levels, craft the ideas into formal proposals, prioritize the proposals, present them to members of the Legislature or the Congress, and advocate for laws implementing the ideas. Its mission is to help preserve and enhance the quality of life for older Californians and their families.

“One of the most effective means of advocacy is through legislation,” Clough said. “Seniors are confronted with overwhelming challenges and I will be a voice for them in the California Senior Legislature.

“Being at the Senior Center allows me a unique opportunity to have my finger on the pulse of the needs of older adults,” she said. “I am very excited to develop proposals with the California Senior Legislature that can result in actual legislation. The majority of proposals by this body are picked up by legislator sponsors, more than any other organization.”

Clough, who has been with the Senior Center for 17 years, says she looks forward to working with Dr. Gene Dorio and other fellow Senior Assembly Members to identify the concerns of older adults in our community through public-input events, panels, and the Senior Center’s monthly Coffee & Conversation roundtable discussions.
