This week’s SCVTV/California Superstores Outstanding Student of the Week is Taylor James from Hart High School. Taylor has a 4.59 GPA, scored 2330 on the SAT and a perfect score of 36 on the ACT. She has high goals for herself which makes her high school career very important.
“I do have hopes of getting into a good college,” Taylor said. “I’m looking towards the Ivy League. So to get in (there) I need good grades. I also want to go into medicine and possibly become an orthopedic surgeon.”
Taylor points to her older brother Dylan, now a sophomore at the University of Michigan, as inspiration for her achievement. Call it sibling rivalry if you want, but Taylor wants to do as well as her brother, if not better.
“It’s friendly,” she says with a laugh. “It’s not super competitive, but, you know…”
Despite her brother’s influence, doing well in school has never been difficult for Taylor.
“Getting good grades just comes easily to me,” Taylor said. “There is something in me that I can’t half-ass anything. I always have to try my best.”
And if all this isn’t enough, Taylor is also a Level 10 gymnast, which means she trains 20 to 25 hours a week with the most elite gymnasts in Southern California. Her ideal situation would be on the gymnastics team at Brown. If not?
“If the gymnastics thing doesn’t workout then I would apply to different colleges that don’t have gymnastics teams and just go to the (college),” she said. “And then I would leave gymnastics behind.”
Congratulations to Taylor James of Hart High School, the SCVTV/California Superstores Outstanding Student of the Week.
