The Master’s University men’s soccer team’s 2017 schedule has been released.

The Mustangs will open their season on Saturday, August 19 with a 1:30 p.m. match against Northwest (WA) on Reese Field.

Then, on August 24, TMU will play Southern Oregon at 1:30 p.m. A day later (Aug. 25), the Mustangs will take on UC Merced at 1:30 p.m. Both matches will take place on the campus of Menlo College in Atherton.

After its time up north, TMU will play the University of Antelope Valley on August 31 at 4:00 p.m. in Lancaster.

On September 2, the Mustangs will return to Reese Field for an 11:00 a.m. match against Embry-Riddle (AZ). On Labor Day (Sep. 4) TMU travels to Riverside for a 6:00 p.m. match against La Sierra. The Mustangs will then face their toughest non-conference opponent on September 6 when they welcome Marymount, the NAIA’s 11th-ranked team, to Reese Field. On September 16, the Mustangs will close their non-conference slate when Bethesda visits the Placerita Canyon for a 4:00 p.m. match.

The Mustangs will open their conference schedule on September 21 when they play No. 22 Menlo, the 2016 GSAC regular-season champion and conference tournament champion, on Reese Field at 4:00 p.m. Then, on September 23, the Mustangs will host William Jessup at 4:00 p.m. TMU will hit the road on September 28 when it plays San Diego Christian in El Cajon at 3:00 p.m. Then, on September 30, the Mustangs will travel to Phoenix, Arizona, for a 2:30 p.m. match against Arizona Christian.

After their road trip, the Mustangs will take on receiving-votes Vanguard on October 4 at 4:00 p.m. on Reese Field. Three days later (Oct. 7), TMU will host Hope International at 1:30 p.m. On October 14, the Mustangs will travel to Santa Barbara and take on receiving-votes Westmont. TMU will then travel north to Atherton for a match against Menlo on October 19 at 2:30 p.m., followed by a 1:30 p.m. match against William Jessup in Rocklin on October 21. The Mustangs will close its regular-season schedule at home on October 28 when they play Westmont at 1:30 p.m.

Looking ahead to the postseason, the 2017 GSAC Tournament will run from November 4-11 with the semifinal and final matches being played on the campus of Westmont in Santa Barbara. The NAIA Opening Round will take place on November 18 at a site to be determined and the NAIA National Tournament will be played November 27–December 2 at Delray Beach, Florida.

“We are excited for our schedule and upcoming games,” commented TMU head coach Jim Rickard. “We have put together a well-balanced schedule with quality teams. At the top of the list would be Marymount as they made it to the NAIA National Tournament final site. The tournament with UC Merced and Southern Oregon will pose a very early test for us. These will be a challenge, but should prepare us for a difficult GSAC schedule as we start against Menlo and William Jessup, only to turn around for two very tough road games at SDCC and ACU. Then, we’re home for two of the historic top teams (Vanguard and Hope International). Then, we face Westmont two different times over the next four games with road games at Menlo and William Jessup sandwiched between. It’s going to be an exciting year and we are ready for the challenge.”

In 2016, TMU posted another winning record (11-7-2, 5-4-1 GSAC) and advanced to the postseason for the sixth year in a row.
