[KHTS] – Nonconsecutive closures on Interstate-5 are expected between Lyons Avenue and State Road-14 from Mar. 30 to Apr. 5.
The California Department of Transportation plans to conduct several closures on I-5 as part of a project to construct truck lanes on between Lyons Avenue and SR-14, according to a release from Caltrans.
The project intends to widen the freeway and bridges in order to add a truck lane to both directions of I-5, according to the release.
The new southbound truck lane will extend from Lyons Avenue to SR-14, a total of 3.7 miles, while the new northbound lane will run from SR-14 to Gavin Canyon, a total of 1.4 miles, according to the release.
The new truck lanes will ease traffic delays, improve transportation of goods, absorb traffic growth due to population increase and enhance safety by separating truck traffic from passenger vehicles, according the release.
The ramp closures will be nonconsecutive and detours will be signed. No unusual levels of dust, noise or vibration are expected, according to the release.
For the safety of the construction crew and motorists, Caltrans ask drivers to be attentive to closures, slow for the cone zone, and move over one lane where possible.
Further information about the closure can be found on the Caltrans website.
