Students and teachers from all 15 elementary schools in the Saugus Union School District will head back to classes on Wednesday, August 9 to begin the 2017-18 academic year.
The first day of school this year will be an Early Release Wednesday. Parents should check with their school for specific dismissal times.
“This is always an exciting time for us,” said Joan Lucid, EdD, district superintendent. “The first day of school sets a fabulous tone for the rest of the school year. It allows the students to begin a routine that will lead them down a path of success while still giving them the comfort of ‘coming home.’”
The return to school this year is preceded by “Back to School Night” at most campuses between Monday, August 7 and Wednesday, August 9. These events allow parents to get reacquainted with the campus and teachers while parents new to the school can get familiarized before their children start class.
“We are eager to start the year,” added David Powell, PhD, president of the district’s Governing Board. “Our teachers, administrators, maintenance, facilities and technology staffs have been working so hard over the summer to make our campuses ready for a new school year. We can’t wait for the students to benefit from this hard work.”
The full District calendar is available online here, but important upcoming dates include:
September 4: Labor Day
September 28/29: Parent Conferences
October 2-6: Fall Break
