CalArts Cares is a series of volunteer events in which California Institute of the Arts students give back to their host community of Santa Clarita. During February, students will donate their time to local not-for-profit organizations Carousel Ranch and the YMCA Santa Clarita Valley — with projects ranging from children’s workshops and musical performances to routine repair and maintenance.
CalArts Cares benefit concert will take place Feb. 19 from 4-7 on the CalArts campus. Admission is free. Proceeds from concessions will go to support local organizations The Gentle Barn and the Gibbon Conservation Center.
The overarching goals of CalArts Cares are to raise awareness and facilitate fundraising for local service organizations and charities. Through CalArts Cares, the Institute seeks to strengthen ties in the community and to provide students with meaningful community service beyond the campus.
On Wednesday, Feb. 18, CalArts students will donate their time at Carousel Ranch, an organization dedicated to providing equestrian therapy for disabled children. Fulfilling the ranch’s wish list, students will collaborate on an outdoor mural, and pitch-in on odd jobs, including painting.
Students are scheduled to volunteer with the YMCA of Santa Clarita Valley on Saturday, February 21st. YMCAs comprise a community of men, women and children who strive every day to be healthy, confident and connected. At the Santa Clarita Y, CalArts students will hold arts-based workshops for children.
