College of the Canyons’ women’s soccer team closed out its regular season schedule with a 4-1 home win over Citrus College on Sophomore Night.
Canyons (17-2, 8-0), which had already claimed its seventh straight conference title, used Thursday’s final home match as an opportunity to honor the program’s six sophomores with a brief pre-game ceremony.
After that the Cougars were all business, scoring three goals in the first half to take control of a match that was never really in doubt.
COC freshman Kylia Bradford scored a pair of unassisted goals with the first coming in the 12th minute.
Less than seven minutes later Bradford struck again to push the lead to 2-0.
Crystal Sanchez got in on the action on the 30th minute, beating the Citrus goalkeeper on an assist from Emily Aguilar that put COC ahead 3-0.
That lead would hold true until Megan Cabrera booted a ball that soared just past the extended arms of goalkeeper Emily Ozanich to give the Owls (6-9-4, 1-6-1) their only goal of the game.
Kayla Brennan later scored for Canyons in the 76th minute, with Aguilar recording another assist, to make it a 4-1 final score.
COC goalkeeper Jordan Burrow (12-2) earned the win in her 56 minutes of work.
The Cougars recorded 18 shots in the game, compared to just two from the Owls.
With the regular season over Canyons will now await playoff seeding for the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional Playoffs. Opening round action will begin on Saturday, Nov. 18, with the Cougars expected to host their first-round opponent.
Here’s the box score.
