There was no letdown for the College of the Canyons women’s soccer team Tuesday night. Just four days after clinching their seventh consecutive conference championship, the Cougars steamrolled visiting Victor Valley College, rolling to a convincing 4-0 home victory.

Alondra Solis, Angel Quintero, Crystal Sanchez, and Kylia Bradford each netted a goal for the Cougars (16-2,7-0).

COC was on the offensive all night long, controlling the pace of play, time of possession, and the number of attacks. The Cougars outshot the Rams 17-2 on the night, including an 8-0 advantage in the first half.

Although Canyons dominated the time of possession in the first half, it wasn’t until the 23rd minute that they were finally able to break through. Solis left a perfect pass for Sanchez who fired a shot from outside the box past the diving Rams’ goalkeeper.

Thirteen minutes later, the Cougars were awarded an indirect free kick from inside the box, just four yards from the goal. To the surprise of the crowd, and the Victor Valley defense, Quintero took the free kick quickly, sending a perfect pass to Bradford who netted the Cougars’ second goal.

COC’s final two goals occurred less than three minutes apart in the second half. In the 60th minute, Solis found space outside the box and fired a missile past the goalkeeper.

Quintero then finished off the scoring by firing a shot with her left foot just beyond the fingertips of the keeper’s outstretched hand.

The Cougars will return to the pitch at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, to host Citrus College in the final regular season match.
