Leading the field of 24 women after Monday’s 18 holes at the California Community College Athletic Associations Women’s Golf State Championship tournament, freshman Kristin Grimes extended her lead to take a three shot advantage with a 36-hole total of 11-over-par 155 (76-79), taking home the individual state championship at Kings Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.
This marks the first time since 2007, when Jenny Lee won the same individual state title.
“This is really special for Kris and her family,” COC women’s golf head coach Gary Peterson said. “This course was longer in distance than what we played all season and it added to her game. This was a great way to end her season.”
Grimes shot a final round of 79 (+7) to increase her lead over second-place Hanna Lee of Glendale College, who posted a two round total of 13-over-par 157 (79-78).
Grimes combined three birdies and 20 pars, while also finishing the 36-hole tournament with an impressive one over on six par-5 holes.
For her finish at the state title tournament, Grimes was donned an All-American.
