As part of its celebration of Black History Month, the Anti-Racism Coalition of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church will welcome members of the Santa Clarita Valley Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People to its Sunday Forum at 11:45 a.m. on Feb. 26.
SCV NAACP President Valerie Bradford will open the presentation with a brief history of the organization which will be followed by a panel discussion. Several members will share why they felt it was important to establish an NAACP chapter in Santa Clarita and review the strides that the group has made to create racial harmony in our community since its inception.
In addition, a discussion will be held on how the NAACP affects the members of the faith community at St. Stephen’s.
— How can we inspire true acceptance of all persons as being made in God’s image.
— How we can better equip ourselves and our parish with the appropriate means to stand up against racism.
Established in New York in 1909, the NAACP is America’s oldest and largest civil rights organization. It was formed by both black and white activists in response to ongoing violence, especially the rampant lynchings, that were perpetrated against Black Americans throughout the country at the time of its establishment.
Grounded by tradition, striving for justice, and growing in faith, St. Stephen’s provides a safe and sacred space for all and invites members of our community to join us for the Forum. It will be held in Spurling Hall, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 24901 Orchard Village Road, Santa Clarita, CA 91355.
