The Master’s University women’s soccer team’s 2017 schedule has been released.
This season, the Lady Mustangs will take on seven teams that appeared in the 2016 Women’s Soccer Coaches’ Postseason Top 25 Poll. Fortunately, TMU won’t have to travel too far as the Lady Mustangs are slated to compete in 13 matches on Reese Field, a far cry from last season’s six home contests.
The Lady Mustangs will open their season on August 18 at 4:00 p.m. when they host Sierra Nevada. Two days later on the 19th, TMU will play No. 5 Northwest (WA) at 11:00 a.m. on Reese Field. Then, on August 24 at 4:00 p.m., the Lady Mustangs will host Marymount, the 2016 CALPAC Tournament champion. Two days later on the 26th, TMU will welcome No. 8 Kesier (FL) to Placerita Canyon for an 11:00 a.m. matinee.
TMU’s September slate doesn’t get any easier as the Lady Mustangs will play No. 20 Embry-Riddle (AZ) on September 2 at 7:30 p.m. on the campus of the College of the Canyons. Then, on Labor Day (Sept. 4), TMU will host No. 21 Kansas Wesleyan at 11:30 a.m. The Lady Mustangs will then host the University of Antelope Valley on September 9 at 11:00 a.m. and then close out their non-conference schedule against No. 17 Ottawa (KS) on September 14 at 4:00 p.m.
On September 21, the Lady Mustangs will open their Golden State Athletic Conference schedule on Reese Field at 1:30 p.m. against Menlo. Two days later on the 23rd, TMU will host William Jessup at 11:00 a.m. After enjoying 10 straight home games, the Lady Mustangs will finally hit the road on September 28 when they play San Diego Christian in El Cajon at 12:30 p.m. Then, on September 30, TMU will travel to Phoenix for a 12:00 p.m. match against Arizona Christian.
The Lady Mustangs will return to Reese Field on October 5 when they’ll host No. 4 Vanguard at 4:00 p.m. On October 7, TMU hosts Hope International at 11:00 a.m. A week later on the 14th, the Lady Mustangs will travel to Santa Barbara for a 12:00 p.m. match against No. 12 Westmont. TMU then travels to Atherton on October 19 to play Menlo at 12:00 p.m., followed by an 11:00 a.m. contest on the 21st against William Jessup in Rocklin. TMU’s regular-season schedule will conclude on October 28 when it hosts Westmont at 11:00 a.m.
As for the postseason, the 2017 GSAC Tournament will run from November 4-11 with the semifinal and final matches being played on the campus of Vanguard University in Costa Mesa. The NAIA Opening Round will take place on November 18 at a site to be determined and the NAIA National Tournament will be played November 27–December 2 at the Orange Beach Sportsplex in Orange Beach, Alabama.
Commenting on this year’s schedule, TMU head coach Curtis Lewis said, “I think we have put ourselves out there to be challenged this year. We play against Northwest, Keiser, Marymount, Ottawa, Emory and Kansas Wesleyan. All of this will really push us to get back into the conversation of being national title contenders once again. I believe we are good enough to be in that talk.”
Last season, TMU went 8-7-5 (4-4-2) and finished fourth in the GSAC.
