With an offense that challenged the program’s single-season goals record, The Master’s University women’s soccer team was almost almost never out of any game it played: The Mustangs were always within striking range.
Likewise, by advancing to the final 16 of the NAIA national soccer tournament in late November, women’s soccer kept TMU within range of the top spots in the 2017-18 Learfield Directors’ Cup NAIA Fall Standings.
The Mustangs came in 12th in the second edition of the standings, released this week. This version added men’s and women’s soccer and women’s volleyball to men’s and women’s cross country, the two programs featured in the first edition when TMU also came in 12th, highest of any Golden State Athletic Conference school at the time.
TMU women’s soccer — which scored 56 goals as a team, two short of the program record set in 2001 — beat Olivet Nazarene University 1-0 in the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship Opening Round on Nov. 18 to advance to the final site competition for the first time since 2014.
There the Mustangs fell to Tennessee Wesleyan, but not before earning Master’s 53 points in the Learfield standings.
The final NAIA standings for the fall will be released on Dec. 21. For more information, click here.
