It’s not too late to help out during the holidays.
Raise You Up nonprofit is seeking donations for care packages that will go to patients of a local convalescent home.
Some of the needed donations include small fleece blankets, new puzzle workbooks, decks of cards, medium-sized holiday gift bags and non-slip socks.
Raise You Up’s co-founder Nicole Avila started the nonprofit in 2014 after helping out at the convalescent home.
“The setting was extremely emotional for me and prompted (my wife and I) to set up a donation drive to give the patients a proper Christmas,” Avila said.
“We had an amazing turn out last year, which made this our mission to do it every year.”
Avila said the organization’s volunteers plan to get up early on Christmas Eve and hand out the donations. But this year, Raise You Up’s members have had some trouble getting supplies for the patients.
“I’m hoping to reach everyone we can because it’s important to us that every patient feels special on this day, since many don’t have family and tend to simply be forgotten,” Avila said.
Avila, who teaches at Montessori on Copperhill, says students are encouraged to bring donated items to school and turn them into their teachers.
Anyone else who wishes to donate can contact Avila by email at nicoleavila31@gmail.com or visit the organization’s GoFundMe page here.

My father is currently at that convalescent home. I have set up a cause on payforward to help bring him home.
