Timothy Soares scored a career-high 27 points and The Master’s University used an overwhelming first half to beat Life Pacific 97-75 Saturday evening on Bross Court.

The victory against their future GSAC opponent gave the Mustangs a four-game winning streak and a 5-1 record.

Soares was unstoppable in a dominant opening 20 minutes, hitting all seven shots he took as the Mustangs scored 58 first-half points.

His dunk with 16:30 left in the first half triggered a 9-0 run that Travis Yenor capped with a three-pointer for a 17-7 lead.

There was more where that came from as the Mustangs kept their foot on the pedal, expanding the lead to 20 points (41-21) on another Soares slam with 3:52 left in the opening half, then to 30 points before going to intermission up 58-26.

The Mustangs shot a sizzling 68% from the field in the first half and Soares was at the forefront, hitting all seven shots he took.

He extended that streak to 11 in a row and wound up going 13-15 from the field, including one from behind the arc.

A Soares dunk with 18:06 left to play produced the game’s largest lead, 67-28.

Of course, Soares had plenty of help. Three other Mustangs scored in double figures.

Junior Hansel Atencia tallied 15 points, going 3-5 from behind the arc and 6-6 at the line. Yenor came off the bench to score 14 points and Brock Gardner chipped in with 11 more.

Senior Lawrence Russell didn’t score in double figures but he managed eight points to go along with team-highs of seven rebounds and a like number of assists.

The Mustangs get a couple of days off before heading back into action on Tuesday evening when they host first-year program, Westcliff, at 7:00pm.
