California Assemblywoman Christy Smith (D-Santa Clarita) will visit Bella Vida, the Santa Clarita Senior Center, to present a check to the center for $450,000 on Wednesday, Oct. 2, the 38th Assembly District’s Senior Appreciation Day.

The day’s activities at Bella Vida from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. will also include a resource fair, featuring local and state agencies and non-profit organizations that will be delivering resources and information to seniors, their families and caregivers.

Hosted in partnership with Bella Vida, the event will also feature informational seminars regarding fraud prevention, the REAL ID, the Medi-Cal program and more.

The $450,000, awarded as a grant from the 2019 California State Budget and a direct result of Assemblywoman Smith’s advocacy, will go toward the Senior Center’s efforts to close the funding gap in the construction of its new site.

The funds round out the $700,000 the Assemblywoman secured for the Simi Valley Free Clinic and the $397,000 obtained for the College of Canyons modernization of Boykin Hall.
