Olympians and professional volleyball players are showing their support of a new indoor volleyball program in Santa Clarita called Starting6. Lead trainers, Olympian and UCLA Hall of Famer Annett Davis and former Professional Volleyball AVP Player Jason Lee, are kicking off the program with several indoor volleyball camps and a 6-week summer training session.

Olympians such as 4-time Olympian Reid Priddy, 3-time gold medalists Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings are very excited about the innovative concept of Starting6. The athletes are voicing their support, and are planning to make a surprise visit to sign autographs for the athletes during certain surprise camp dates.

The purpose of the camp is to help kids aged 8 & above, beginners and intermediate players during full or half day camps learn the game and improve their skills. Athletes will be pleased to attend the camps which will be held in one of the only air-conditioned gyms in Santa Clarita Valley, at the Henry Mayo Health and Fitness Center.

Current camp dates are June 4-7, June 11-14, July 23-26 and July 30-August 2, and registration is currently open at www.Starting6.com.

The Summer FUNdamental Training session, starting June 18, is planned to be a six-week program which will feature two days of training and one day of live games designed to ensure improvement and fun. Starting6 plans to have season- al training groups so that kids can also enjoy other sports in addition to learning volleyball throughout the year in a no-pressure environment.

Why S6? There are 6 people who are allowed to play on a volleyball court at one time. The main goal of Starting6 is to empower children and train them to become better athletes and citizens so that they can move up the ranks at their schools and eventually be a part of the starting 6 on their team. Starting6 aims to help spearhead the development of the next generation of volleyball players, to help grow the game.

Annett Davis has trained athletes that have made their junior high, high school, and club volleyball teams, and some who have even have earned college schol- arships. “Our goal was to create a program for families who cannot afford the $4000 – $8000 price of a volleyball club, but who still want high quality volley- ball instruction for their kids. We are not a club, we are an exceptional alterna- tive,” explained Davis.

When reached for comments, Annett Davis was quoted as saying, “Our goal is to empower children to become better athletes and citizens of the world and help them on their way to making the ‘Starting 6’ on their teams. Players will receive high-level instruction and guidance that will lead to individual growth, as well as a higher volleyball IQ. To us, character matters. Athletes will put in consistent work that leads to greater skills not only on but also off the court.”
